A conversation on mortality and meaning (free discussion group – Modern life in much of the world is extraordinarily good at helping us not think about death. We’ve medicalized it, institutionalized it, and outsourced it to hospitals and funeral homes so that people in much of the developed world can reach middle age without ever being in the same room as a corpse. But not long ago, and even still in a lot of cultures, death happened at home, in community, witnessed. Now it happens somewhere else, to someone else, until suddenly it doesn’t.
